Sarget De Gruaud Larose 2017 (1x75cl)

Sarget de Gruaud Larose is the second wine of Château Gruaud Larose, a Second Growth of Saint-Julien classified in 1855. The estate's old motto is Le Roi des Vins, le Vin des Rois — which tells you how it sees itself.

The house style. Gruaud Larose is the most old-school of the Saint-Julien Second Growths: earthy, savoury and firm rather than polished and fruity. Sarget carries that character in a lighter, earlier-drinking form.

Why 2017. A frost-affected year in parts of Bordeaux, but Saint-Julien came through well. The wines are fresher and more classically proportioned than 2018 or 2019 — which suits a second wine.

When to drink it. Now, decanted thirty to sixty minutes. Roast beef, lamb, hard cheese.
