Chianti Classico is Sangiovese from the original zone between Florence and Siena — the black rooster on the neck is the mark of the Classico area, not the wider Chianti region around it.

The three levels

Annata — the standard bottling, aged one year. Everyday drinking.
Riserva — aged at least two years. More depth and structure.
Gran Selezione — the top tier, from a single estate's own fruit, aged 30 months.

Why it works in Hong Kong. Chianti has high acidity and moderate weight, which makes it one of the few European reds that genuinely works with tomato-based food, roast pork and even some Chinese dishes. It is a table wine in the best sense — it goes with the meal rather than dominating it.
