The regions in one line each. Speyside is the largest and generally the sweetest, often finished in sherry casks. Islay is the peated end — smoke and iodine, the style people either seek out or avoid. The Highlands cover too much ground to generalise. Lowland malts are the lightest. Blended Scotch mixes malt and grain whisky from several distilleries and is built for consistency rather than character.
