Where the differences come from. The base material still shows: rye tends to be peppery, wheat softer, potato noticeably thicker in the mouth. Filtration level does the rest — the more a spirit is filtered, the cleaner and the flatter it gets. If you are mixing, buy on price; if you are drinking it cold and neat, the base material is the thing to read on the label.
