American sparkling wine, mostly from California.
The Champagne connection. Several of the best-known producers in Napa and Sonoma were founded by Champagne houses looking for cooler sites outside France, and they use the same grapes and the same bottle fermentation. The fruit is riper, so the wines read fuller and rounder than Champagne at the same sweetness level. Good value against a comparable French bottle.
