Collection: Perrier-Jouët

Perrier-Jouët is based in Epernay and has leaned on Chardonnay since the nineteenth century. That is the whole house in one word: its wines are lighter, more floral and more delicate than the Pinot-driven houses, and if you find champagne heavy going, this is the one to try.

It is also one of our three best-selling champagnes by volume.

The range

Grand Brut — the non-vintage house style, and one of the most accessible ways into a Grande Marque. Light and floral. Suits the start of an evening and lighter food: seafood, salad, anything before the main course arrives.

Blason Rosé — the house rosé. More body than the Grand Brut, and it copes with richer Cantonese dishes.

Belle Epoque — the prestige cuvée, made only in declared vintages. This is the bottle with the hand-painted white anemones, designed by the Art Nouveau glassmaker Émile Gallé in 1902 — one of the most recognisable bottles in the world, and the reason it works so well as a gift.

Belle Epoque is a different wine from Grand Brut, not a bigger version of it: a single year, aged far longer before release, built on Chardonnay from the house's best sites. More precise, more floral, and with real length.

Which one, for what

  • Everyday, or a large order — Grand Brut. Recognisable name, sensible price, works in volume.
  • A gift that needs to look like one — Belle Epoque. The bottle does the work before it is even opened, and it comes in its own presentation box.
  • A Chinese table — Blason Rosé.

Serving

Grand Brut: properly chilled, 8–10°C. Belle Epoque: 10–12°C, and use a white wine glass rather than a flute. Ice-cold and a narrow glass will hide most of what you paid for.
