Collection: Veuve Clicquot

Yellow Label is one of the most recognised objects in wine. That is not an accident — the orange-yellow label was registered in 1877, and it is the reason this is one of the safest gifts you can give in Hong Kong: the recipient knows what it is without being told.

The house style is Pinot Noir-led, which gives it more body and grip than a Chardonnay-driven champagne. It has enough weight to sit at the table rather than only working as an aperitif.

The range

Yellow Label Brut — the house non-vintage. Our third best-selling champagne. Roast chicken, char siu, richer seafood.

Rosé — more body again, and a good match for anything with soy and sugar.

Demi-Sec — noticeably sweet. This is a dessert champagne, not a dinner one, and it is the right answer for Chinese banquet desserts and wedding cake where a dry champagne fights the food.

Extra Brut Extra Old — the opposite end: no dosage at all, built entirely from reserve wines. Dry, taut and serious. For someone who already drinks champagne regularly and says the usual bottles are too sweet.

La Grande Dame — the prestige cuvée, named after Madame Clicquot, who took over the house in 1805 at twenty-seven and effectively invented modern champagne production. Vintage-only, Pinot Noir-dominant, and it needs a proper glass.

How to choose

  • Gift under HK$300 — Yellow Label. Nothing else at the price is as instantly understood.
  • Dessert or a banquet — Demi-Sec.
  • Someone who drinks champagne seriously — Extra Brut Extra Old, or La Grande Dame.

Serving

Yellow Label and Rosé: 8–10°C, properly cold. La Grande Dame: 10–12°C in a white wine glass, not a flute.
