San Guido Guidalberto 2012 (1x75cl)

A Bordeaux-style blend from Tenuta San Guido in Bolgheri, on the warm Tuscan coast. What makes this one worth a look is the age: with over a decade in bottle, a wine like this has usually softened and moved away from primary fruit towards something more savoury and settled.

Aged bottles make good gifts because the years are already done for you, and 2012 reads well at a dinner where the date means something. Open it with red meat, mushroom dishes or hard cheese, and give it time in the glass.

Tasting notes

A Bolgheri blend with this much bottle age typically shows dried cherry, tobacco leaf, leather and earth alongside softened tannin. Decant gently and expect some sediment after more than ten years in bottle.
