Marchesi Antinori Tignanello Toscana IGT 2022 (1x75cl)

Tignanello is the wine that started the Super Tuscan category. In 1971 Antinori blended Cabernet into Sangiovese and aged it in French barriques — both of which broke the Chianti Classico rules at the time, so it was sold as simple table wine. It went on to become one of the most recognised names in Italy.

What is in the bottle. Sangiovese-led, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The Sangiovese gives the sour-cherry acidity and grip that makes it Tuscan; the Cabernet fills in the middle and adds structure.

When to drink it. 2022 is young. Decant a full hour if you are opening it now, or hold five to fifteen years. Steak, roast lamb, aged Parmesan, anything with tomato and herbs.

As a gift. One of the few Italian names that carries the same recognition in Hong Kong as a classified Bordeaux.
