Faustino, Faustino I Gran Reserva 1970 (1x75cl)

A Rioja Gran Reserva from 1970, so over 55 years in bottle. Gran Reserva is Rioja's longest legal ageing category, with a minimum period in barrel and then in bottle before the wine can be released, and Rioja reds are usually Tempranillo-led.

This is a birth-year or anniversary bottle more than a Tuesday bottle. Worth being straight with you: wines this old vary enormously from bottle to bottle, and we cannot make any promise about condition. Stand it upright for a day or two before opening and decant gently off any sediment.

Tasting notes

Aged Rioja usually moves away from fresh fruit towards dried fig, leather, tobacco and a savoury, mellow finish, with tannin that has softened over the decades.
