Edradour 2011-2021 Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky first fill Sherry Hogshead (1x70cl)

Distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2021, so around ten years in the cask. The label states a first-fill sherry hogshead: a hogshead holds roughly 250 litres, and first fill means the cask held sherry before this whisky and had not yet been used for whisky. A cask like that gives up more of its character than one that has been refilled.

A single-cask Highland malt like this is a good gift for someone who has already worked through the standard distillery range and wants something with a bit more story to it.

Tasting notes

Whisky matured in sherry casks usually leans towards dried fruit, raisin and baking spice, with a richer, darker profile than a bourbon-cask malt.
