Chateau Pichon Baron, Pauillac 2010 (1x150cl)

A magnum holds two normal bottles, which is the difference between passing one bottle around a table of eight and actually giving everyone a second pour. Chateau Pichon Baron is a Pauillac estate on the left bank, and this 2010 magnum is built for a full table.

Large formats also age more slowly, so a magnum tends to feel a touch younger than the same wine in a 75cl bottle. It makes a substantial gift for a big dinner or a company celebration, and it is worth decanting a good two hours ahead.

Tasting notes

Cabernet Sauvignon-led Pauillac usually shows blackcurrant, cedar and graphite with firm structure, and in magnum it typically feels a little more youthful. Serve around 17-18°C.
