Chateau Montrose 2006 is a Saint-Estephe red from an estate classified as a Second Growth in 1855. The estate takes its name from the hill once covered in heather, the Mont Rose, and works a 95-hectare vineyard in a single stand facing the Gironde, centred on Terraces No.03 and No.04. For 2006, the estate sheet gives a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot, vinified by micro-plot in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks and aged 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% new, drawn mainly from Terrace No.04 sandy gravels on a clay-rich substrate with an iron layer.
Tasting notes
The estate describes a dense, deep colour, a nose of red fruits and morello cherry, and a long, full-bodied, powerful palate with morello cherry, raspberry, strawberry and licorice, clean taut tannins, and excellent ageing potential.
This is an older vintage. It was sourced from a reliable, proven source, checked for authenticity by our in-house sommelier, and stored in our constant-temperature cellar after arrival.
