Château Lascombes is a Second Growth of Margaux, classified in 1855.

Why 2018. A year of two halves: a wet, difficult spring with heavy mildew pressure, then one of the hottest, driest summers on record. What survived came in very ripe. 2018 Bordeaux is deeply coloured, powerful and high in alcohol — the most muscular of the recent vintages.

Who it suits. If you like big, ripe reds, this is the Lascombes to buy. If you prefer Bordeaux lean and aromatic, look at 2017 or 2021.

When to drink it. Decant ninety minutes now, or hold ten years. Grilled red meat, lamb, game.
