Château Lascombes is a Second Growth of Margaux, classified in 1855.

Why 2016. Many critics rate 2016 as the best Left Bank vintage of the century. A wet spring followed by a very dry summer forced the vines deep, and a cool August kept the acidity — the result is wines with real concentration and freshness, which is a rare combination. 2016 Margaux in particular is considered outstanding.

When to drink it. Still young. Decant ninety minutes if you open it now, or leave it ten to twenty years — this is the Lascombes vintage to keep. Red meat, lamb, game.

As a gift. If the recipient collects, 2016 is the year they will want. If they will drink it this month, look at 2014 instead.
