Chateau Lagrange 2014, St. Julien (1x75cl)

Lagrange is a Third Growth of Saint-Julien, classified in 1855. It was bought by Suntory in 1983 and rebuilt from a low point — the investment since then is the reason it is taken seriously again.

What Saint-Julien means. The commune sits between Margaux and Pauillac and tends to combine the two: the perfume of one, the structure of the other. It is the most consistently reliable of the Left Bank communes.

When to drink it. 2014 is approachable now with food and will hold another decade. Decant an hour. Red meat, duck, mushrooms.

As a gift. A Third Growth with a Japanese owner tends to land well in Hong Kong — the name carries in both directions.
