Collection: Gevrey-Chambertin
Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest village of the Côte de Nuits and has nine Grand Crus — more than anywhere else in Burgundy, including Chambertin itself, said to have been Napoleon's wine.
The style. The most powerful and structured red Burgundy. Where Chambolle is delicate and perfumed, Gevrey is dark, firm and built to age. If you find Pinot Noir too light, this is the village to try.
A caution. Gevrey-Chambertin is a big appellation and the quality range within it is enormous. A basic village bottle from an anonymous négociant and a Grand Cru from a serious domaine share a name and almost nothing else. Who made it matters more than the village name.
Decant an hour. Serve 14–16°C — Pinot Noir served too warm loses its aromatics entirely, and in a Hong Kong flat that happens fast.
