Barbaresco

Barbaresco is made from the same grape as Barolo — Nebbiolo — on neighbouring hills a few kilometres away. The soils are slightly richer and the harvest slightly earlier, and the result is a wine with the same aromatics but less weight and less grip.

Why it matters to you. Barbaresco is ready years before Barolo and it costs less for equivalent quality. If you want to understand Nebbiolo without waiting a decade, start here.

Decant an hour. Braised meat, mushrooms, aged cheese, roast duck.
