If your picture of Australian Chardonnay is thick, buttery and tropical, the Yarra Valley is the region that quietly argues with it. Yarra sits in a cool pocket of Victoria, and cool-climate Chardonnay usually comes out tighter, leaner and more citrus-driven than the style that gave Australia its reputation in the first place.

Tasting notes

Cool-climate Yarra Chardonnay typically shows grapefruit, lemon and white peach with a chalky, mineral finish and acidity that keeps it moving. Serve it cold but not ice-cold, and put it next to steamed fish, prawns, roast chicken or anything with butter in the sauce.
