This is an independent bottling rather than an official distillery release: the spirit comes from Bowmore on Islay, distilled in 2000 and bottled in 2021 at twenty-one years old. Independent bottlers often show a distillery from a slightly different angle than the standard range does.
Islay malts are usually peated, and two decades in cask tends to soften that smoke rather than remove it. A bottle for someone who already knows what they like in whisky.
Tasting notes
Aged Islay single malt typically shows softened peat smoke, sea salt, dried fruit and oak. Neat is the way to start; a drop of water can open up the smokier side.
