Bourgogne Rouge is the base of the Burgundy pyramid, the regional tier that sits under the villages and the cru bottlings. That is not a criticism, it is the easiest way into Pinot Noir without needing a special occasion first.

Open it on a Tuesday with roast chicken, or bring it to a dinner where you want something red but not heavy. It also works as a low-risk gift for a friend who likes Burgundy but already owns the obvious bottles.

Tasting notes

Regional Bourgogne Pinot Noir usually shows red cherry and raspberry, light tannin and fresh acidity, with an earthy edge underneath. Best served slightly cool, around 14-16C.
