Chateau Tronquoy-Lalande 2011 (1x75cl)

Saint-Estephe is the sturdier corner of the left bank, and that makes it a good match for the kind of food we actually eat in winter - braised beef, roast pork, anything slow-cooked. The 2011 has had over a decade to smooth out.

Not a bottle you sip on its own; it wants a plate next to it. Decant an hour ahead and it'll be in a much better mood by the second glass.

Tasting notes

Saint-Estephe reds usually lead with Cabernet Sauvignon and typically show dark blackcurrant, cedar and an earthy, mineral edge with firm tannins. Around ten to fifteen years in bottle generally rounds that structure off and brings in savoury, tobacco-like notes.
