This is Louis Roederer Collection 242 in a 150cl magnum, which holds the equivalent of two standard bottles, and it comes in a gift box as the name says. Collection is the house's multi-vintage Brut, built around a reserve wine component.

A magnum is a table wine in the literal sense — one bottle covers a whole round for a group, so it suits Mid-Autumn dinners, year-end parties and client gifting. Chill it well ahead; a magnum takes longer in the fridge than you'd expect.

Tasting notes

Brut Champagne of this type usually shows citrus and orchard fruit with a bready, lees-driven depth from reserve wine, finishing dry with a fine bead. Serve chilled, and pour with the bottle well supported.
