How to read the colour. Pale does not mean dry and dark does not mean sweet — colour comes from how long the juice sat on the skins, and sweetness is a separate decision made at fermentation. The label or the listing will say. What colour does tell you is weight: the darker the wine, the more body it will have, and the better it will sit next to grilled food.
