Pol Roger Brut Reserve NV (1x75cl)

Pol Roger is based in Epernay and has been family-owned since 1849 — one of the very few large houses that still is. Brut Réserve, known as White Foil, is its non-vintage.

The Churchill connection. Winston Churchill drank Pol Roger for most of his life, and the house named its prestige cuvée after him. It is the sort of detail a recipient enjoys knowing, which makes this an easy bottle to give.

The style. An equal blend of the three champagne grapes, aged longer than the legal minimum. Balanced rather than pushed in any direction — neither as lean as Laurent-Perrier nor as broad as Bollinger.

When to drink it. Serve at 8–10°C. Good as an aperitif and good at the table, which is not true of every non-vintage.
