The Rhône's whites, which are a small share of the region and worth finding.

The grapes. Viognier is the northern one — grown alone in Condrieu, low in acid, thick in texture and unmistakably floral. Marsanne and Roussanne are blended together further south and give a fuller, nuttier wine. White Châteauneuf-du-Pape adds Grenache Blanc and Clairette. None of these are sharp wines, so they suit richer food better than shellfish.
