コレクション: Saint-Julien

Saint-Julien sits between Margaux and Pauillac, and it takes something from each: the perfume of one, the structure of the other.

It is the smallest of the four great communes and has no First Growth — but it is widely regarded as the most consistently reliable. There are no weak estates here, and in a difficult vintage Saint-Julien is usually the safest place to buy.

On our list

Ducru-Beaucaillou (Second Growth, trading near First Growth prices) and its entry label Le Petit Ducru; Léoville Poyferré and Pavillon; Gruaud Larose and Sarget; Talbot and Connétable; Lagrange; Branaire-Ducru; and Gloria — built after 1942 from parcels bought off classified estates, which is why it drinks above its unclassified status.

Where the value is. Saint-Julien has an unusually strong set of second wines. They carry real classified terroir, drink years earlier, and cost a fraction. See all second wines.
