コレクション: Beaune

Beaune is the commercial capital of Burgundy — the walled town where most of the great négociant houses keep their cellars, and where the Hospices de Beaune charity auction has been held every November since 1859.

The wines. Beaune itself has no Grand Cru, but a large number of Premier Crus, most of them red. The style is middle-weight and approachable: softer than Pommard, more substantial than Volnay, and generally ready earlier than the Côte de Nuits.

Why it is good value. Because it lacks Grand Cru prestige and produces in quantity, Beaune is consistently one of the cheapest ways to drink real Premier Cru Burgundy. For a first serious Burgundy, it is a sensible place to start.

Serve 14–16°C. Decant 30 minutes. Roast chicken, duck, mushrooms, soft cheese.
