Vosne-Romanée is the most expensive village in Burgundy, and the reason is a handful of tiny plots at its centre: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, La Romanée — six Grand Crus in a village you can walk across in ten minutes.

The style. The most aromatic and silky of the Côte de Nuits. Where Gevrey is powerful and Nuits-Saint-Georges is earthy, Vosne is perfumed — spice, rose, dark cherry — with a texture people describe as velvet.

Practical note. Even village-level Vosne-Romanée carries a premium because of the neighbours. If you want the character without the postcode tax, a Premier Cru from an excellent grower in Nuits-Saint-Georges or Gevrey often gives more wine for the money.

Serve 14–16°C. Decant 45 minutes. Duck, game birds, mushrooms.
