St Henri is the Penfolds Shiraz that goes against the house grain: it is matured in large, old oak vats rather than new barriques. No new-oak influence at all.

Why that matters. Most premium Australian Shiraz is shaped by new oak. St Henri deliberately is not, so what you taste is the fruit and the vintage rather than the barrel. It is the counterpoint to Grange within the same range.

When to drink it. Drinkable now, and it ages. Decant an hour ahead. Lamb, beef, anything off a grill.

Is it worth it? A consistent seller here, and the Penfolds bottle most likely to change the mind of someone who thinks Australian Shiraz is all oak and alcohol.
