Pomerol sits on Bordeaux's right bank, where Merlot leads the blend. That usually makes the wines rounder and softer in the mouth than the Cabernet-led reds of the left bank, which is why Pomerol tends to be the easier sell at a table with mixed drinkers.

This one has over fifteen years in bottle. Older bottles vary from one to the next, so treat it as a bottle with age rather than a known quantity. Stand it upright for a day before opening, pour gently, and decant off any sediment.

Tasting notes

Aged Merlot-led Pomerol usually moves away from fresh fruit towards dried plum, earth and a softer texture. Typically suited to roast meat or a slow-cooked dinner rather than a light lunch.
