De Martino Familia Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Malbec (Maipo Valley) 2008 (1x75cl)

Maipo Valley sits just outside Santiago and is Chile's classic home for Cabernet Sauvignon. This blend adds Carmenere and Malbec, which usually brings a darker, plusher side to the structure.

It has more than fifteen years in bottle now, and older bottles like this always vary from one to another, so treat it as an experience rather than a sure thing. Stand it upright for a day, open it slowly, and drink it with something simple like grilled lamb.

Tasting notes

An aged Chilean Cabernet blend typically softens into dried fruit, tobacco, leather and earthy notes, with tannins that have mellowed. Decant gently off any sediment and drink within the evening.
