Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino 2004 (1x75cl)

A Brunello di Montalcino from 2004, which is always Sangiovese by the rules of the appellation. That means high acidity and a firm, savoury frame rather than a soft fruity one. With over 20 years in bottle this has moved well into mature territory, and bottles this old vary from one to the next.

A good match for Italian food nights, but honestly it also handles a Cantonese roast meat spread better than most people expect thanks to that acidity. Tasting notes

Mature Brunello typically shows dried cherry, tea leaf, dried herbs, leather and a touch of balsamic, with bright acidity and tannins that have softened. Older bottles vary.
