Chateau Saint-Pierre, St. Julien 2013 (1x75cl)

A 2013 Saint-Julien from the left bank. Saint-Julien reds are usually a Cabernet and Merlot blend with a fairly polished, mid-weight feel rather than a big showy one. Around a decade in bottle generally takes the edge off the tannins, so this is drinking territory rather than cellaring territory.

A tidy option for a dinner with friends, or a gift when you want a proper Saint-Julien address without a huge price tag. Decant for around an hour, serve at 16-18°C, and put it next to beef, lamb chops or roast pork. Free delivery in Hong Kong over HK$800, flat HK$80 below that, standard delivery 2-5 business days.

Tasting notes

Saint-Julien typically shows blackcurrant, dark cherry and cedar with a savoury, slightly graphite edge. With ten years in bottle the tannins usually feel smoother and the fruit a little more mellow.
