Chateau Pontet Canet 2012 (1x75cl)

Pontet-Canet is a Fifth Growth of Pauillac, farmed biodynamically — horses in the vineyard, no synthetic treatments, and part of the wine aged in clay amphorae rather than only oak. It is one of the few estates in Bordeaux doing this at scale.

Why 2012. A mid-weight Left Bank vintage. Cabernet struggled to ripen fully in places, so the wines are medium-bodied and come round early — no long wait, and priced well below the celebrated years.

When to drink it. Now, decanted an hour. Red meat, duck, aged cheese.

How it compares. 2008 is the serious bottle from this estate; 2012 is the everyday one.
