Chateau Pape Clement, Graves 2013 (1x75cl)

Pape Clément is a Cru Classé de Graves in Pessac-Léognan and the oldest continuously working vineyard in Bordeaux — records go back to around 1300, when it belonged to the future Pope Clement V.

What Pessac-Léognan gives you. Gravel soils on the edge of the city, and a smoky, mineral, tobacco-edged character that Médoc wines do not have.

Why 2013 at this price. 2013 was a difficult, light vintage across Bordeaux. That is exactly why it is worth buying from a top estate: the winemaking and the terroir are the same, the wine is fully open now with no waiting, and it costs a fraction of what 2018 does.

When to drink it. Now. Decant thirty to sixty minutes. Grilled meat, duck, mushrooms.
