Château Lascombes is a Second Growth of Margaux, classified in 1855.

Why 2021. A cool, difficult growing season after four hot years — frost in April, rain through the summer, and a genuine test of the winemaking. The wines came out lighter, fresher and lower in alcohol: a return to classic Bordeaux proportions rather than the ripe, powerful style of 2018 to 2020.

Who it suits. If you find modern Bordeaux too heavy, 2021 is the vintage to try. It also matches Cantonese food better than the hot years do — a lighter red works at a Chinese table, a big one fights it.

When to drink it. Now, decanted an hour, or hold five to eight years. Roast duck, lamb, mushroom dishes.
