Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste 2013 (1x75cl)
Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste 2013 (1x75cl)
Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a Fifth Growth of Pauillac and, among people who drink Bordeaux regularly, one of the most reliably admired estates on the Left Bank. It is unfashionable in the best sense: it has not chased modern ripeness or new oak, and it makes the same wine every year.
The style. Almost pure Cabernet Sauvignon, dry, firm, with the cassis and cedar that defines Pauillac. Nothing decorative. This is Bordeaux the way people who like Bordeaux want it.
Why 2013. A light vintage, so it is fully approachable now rather than needing a decade — and it is priced well below the same label in a strong year.
When to drink it. Now, decanted an hour. Red meat, lamb, aged hard cheese.
