Carmes De Rieussec 2013 (1x75cl)

Carmes de Rieussec is the second wine of Château Rieussec in Sauternes, so it is a way into that style without going straight for the main label. Sauternes is made from grapes affected by noble rot, which concentrates the sugar and gives the wine its honeyed character.

Sweet wine goes further than dessert in Hong Kong — try it with foie gras, blue cheese, or even a slightly spicy dish where the sweetness cools things down. A half glass each is usually enough, so one bottle covers a whole dinner table. Free delivery over HK$800, flat HK$80 below.

Tasting notes

Sémillon-led Sauternes typically shows apricot, candied orange peel, honey and a marmalade note, with acidity underneath keeping it from feeling heavy. Bottle age usually brings a deeper amber colour and dried-fruit character. Serve well chilled, around 8-10°C, in a small glass.
