コレクション: Bordeaux

Bordeaux is the deepest part of our list, and the part we are known for. Delivered across Hong Kong.

Where the value is. A classified estate's second wine is made at the same château, by the same team, usually from younger vines. It carries the estate's house style at a fraction of the price. That is why so much of what we sell is Chevalier de Lascombes, Sarget de Gruaud Larose, Connetable de Talbot, Les Griffons de Pichon Baron, Le Petit Ducru, Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré and Le Clementin du Pape Clement — real Bordeaux addresses, everyday prices.

The estates themselves. Château Lascombes, Pontet-Canet, Branaire-Ducru, Lagrange, Pape Clement, Gazin, Cantemerle, La Tour Carnet, Kirwan, d'Issan, Sociando-Mallet, Montrose, Cos d'Estournel, Lynch-Bages, Palmer and Ducru-Beaucaillou, across a spread of vintages.

Which vintage? Older bottles are not automatically better. Anything over ten years may be near or past its window and cork condition varies — read the notes before buying. If you are drinking this week rather than cellaring, a recent vintage of a second wine is usually the better bet.

よくあるご質問

What is the difference between Left Bank and Right Bank Bordeaux?

The Gironde river splits the region. Left Bank appellations such as Pauillac, Margaux and Saint-Julien sit on gravel and lead with Cabernet Sauvignon, giving firmer tannin and a longer ageing curve. Right Bank areas such as Saint-Emilion and Pomerol have more clay and limestone and lead with Merlot, so the wines feel rounder and are usually approachable earlier.

What does "second wine" mean in Bordeaux?

A second wine is a separate label made by the same estate, usually from younger vines or from lots the team decides not to put into the main wine. It is made in the same cellar by the same people, so the house style comes through, but it is lighter and ready to drink sooner. Browse Bordeaux second wines.

What does 1855 Grand Cru Classé actually mean?

It refers to the 1855 classification of Medoc and Sauternes properties, ranked in five tiers from first to fifth growth. The list was drawn up on the trading prices of the day and has barely changed since. It tells you which estates had standing in the nineteenth century, not how any single recent vintage tastes, so treat it as history rather than a current quality score.

Do all Bordeaux wines need years of ageing before drinking?

No. Regional Bordeaux and Bordeaux Superieur are usually made to drink within a few years of release. Classified estates from strong vintages are the ones built for the long haul. If you are opening a bottle tonight, look for a Merlot-led Right Bank wine or an older vintage that has already had its time in the cellar.

Is there such a thing as white Bordeaux?

Yes. Dry white Bordeaux is usually a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, sometimes with a little Muscadelle. Sauvignon brings citrus and cut, Semillon brings body and a waxy texture. Pessac-Leognan makes the more serious barrel-aged examples. Sauternes, from the same region, is the sweet style. Browse white Bordeaux.

How do I store Bordeaux in a Hong Kong flat?

Heat and swings in temperature do more damage than humidity. Keep bottles lying down, away from windows, the kitchen and the top of the fridge. A small wine cabinet at 12 to 16 degrees is the reliable answer for anything you plan to keep past a year. Hong Kong humidity is fine for corks, but never store bottles in a hot cupboard or on an enclosed balcony.
