The main regions. Napa Valley is Cabernet Sauvignon country — ripe, generous, and the most expensive American wine per bottle. Sonoma next door is cooler and more varied, with Pinot Noir and Zinfandel alongside Cabernet. Oregon's Willamette Valley is Pinot Noir at a lighter weight, closer to Burgundy in shape. Washington State makes Syrah and Cabernet with more acidity than Napa.
